A man was killed overnight in north Houston after what police described as an immigrant smuggling transaction gone bad.

The incident took place near Interstate 45 and Tidwell. Police reported that the alleged smuggler demanded more money from family members for the undocumented immigrants in his pickup truck.
The suspect was arrested after he crashed the pickup into a van.
A fight broke out and the smuggler fled the scene with the undocumented immigrants still in his vehicle. Police say a brother of one of the men being held grabbed the door of the smuggler's pickup and was dragged across the parking lot and onto the feeder road.

The alleged smuggler stopped after hitting a van while fleeing the scene. The relatives and the driver got into another fight and were all taken into custody. The victim who was dragged by the truck was taken to the hospital were he later died.

This accident is still under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
