The U.S. Justice Department has charged a Somali native living in the United States with plotting to blow up a shopping mall in the central state of Ohio.
Attorney General John Ashcroft announced the indictment Monday.

Mr. Ashcroft said Nuradin Abdi is charged with providing material support to the al-Qaida terrorist organization, which was plotting to blow up a shopping mall in Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Abdi has also been charged with two counts of fraud. He has been held by U.S. officials since November 2003.

The indictment says Mr. Abdi attended a terrorist training camp in Ethiopia in 2000. It says shortly after, he used a fraudulent visa to enter the United States, where he collaborated with convicted al-Qaida operative Iyman Faris.
