News 9 San Antonio | 24 Hour Local News | TOP STORIES | Cibolo home raided in narcotics case

A home in Cibolo was recently raided and 12 people were indicted on suspect of smuggling significant amounts of narcotics.

The home belongs to 27-year-old Samuel Zuniga and wife 25-year-old Raquel Salazar, who are among the indicted. Officials said they are the ring leaders of a major drug ring that operated out of their home.

"I knew there was something going on. I didn't know if it was drugs or I thought maybe there was a car ring," neighbor Talitha Witkowski said.

Agents began investigating the couple in August. Officials said they were smuggling drugs from Mexico.

They said the drugs were first taken to Eagle Pass then taken to Cibolo where they were packed into vehicles and later delivered across the country.

Officials said they would hide the drugs in different compartments in different vehicles.

"They had welding equipment. They had other types of tools to hide the drugs inside the vehicles," Drug Enforcement Administration spokesman Javier Pena said.

Officials said over 800 pounds of marijuana, 12 kilos of cocaine and 90 kilos of methamphetamines were confiscated.

However, Pena said what made the case unusual was the family involvement.

"They pack up the dope, put the kids in the car and use them as decoys. Off they go and it looks like just an average family outing and this is what is disturbing."

If convicted each defendant could face 10 years to life in federal prison.
