Immigration issues

``POV,'' 10 tonight, Ch. 9.

This PBS documentary series returns for its 17th season with a look at an issue that will be all too familiar to people in the Bay Area.

More than 1,000 Mexican immigrants -- most of them undocumented -- migrate to the small Long Island, N.Y., town of Farmingville to find work as day laborers. The local residents are none too happy about this, and a string of clashes escalates to the brutal beating of two workers.

The best thing about the piece is that the filmmakers steer clear of easy solutions to what is a very complex cultural problem.
