IMMIGRATION, TREMONTI: CONTROLLED EARNINGS TOTAL 5.8 BLN
(AGI) - Gaeta, Italy, June 23 - It is necessary to monitor the lawfulness of the great flow of earnings sent home by the immigrants who work in Italy. That's what Economy Minister Giulio Tremonti said in his speech at the Finance Police reception. In 2002, according to ministry figures, the money sent home by immigrants totalled 5.8 bln euros, almost 12,000 bln lire, about 0.5 of the GDP. "This is something which needs to be monitored strictly, even to avoid the sending of illegal sums, which could finance terrorism". (AGI) -
